PCI DSS is the payment-card industry security standard that governs handling of credit-card data.

PCI DSS defines twelve requirements for organisations that store, process or transmit cardholder data. Most consumer apps stay out of PCI scope entirely by using Stripe, Adyen or Braintrust to tokenize payments.
