The brief

RealProfits is a retail-trading and portfolio-tracking platform with a built-in AI co-pilot. The brief was deceptively simple: build the trading dashboard the founders themselves had wanted for ten years, with an AI layer that was grounded in the user's actual trade history — not a generic chatbot that hallucinated tickers.

Architecture & engineering choices

Web on Next.js, mobile on React Native, AI services in Python + FastAPI behind a vector store of per-user trade history. The AI co-pilot is RAG-grounded against the user's own positions, tax-lot history and journal notes — it cannot reference data the user does not have. Token budgets and per-feature spend ceilings keep the OpenAI bill predictable as the user base grows.

Real-time portfolio sync across multiple brokerages is the part most teams underestimate. We built a unified normalization layer over four broker APIs that smooths their differences without losing fidelity for tax-lot accounting.
